Nellie is a private notebook for the people in your life. Everything you put in it stays on your phone. There are no accounts, no analytics and no advertising, and nothing is sent to us. The only thing that leaves your phone is the location of a memory, when you choose to save one: your phone's own map service (Apple on iPhone, Google on Android) uses it to draw the map and name the place.
Nellie keeps the following only on your device, in the app's private storage:
Photos you attach are copied into the app's own storage. Nellie never writes to your photo library and never uploads photos anywhere. Reminders are local notifications scheduled on your phone; they do not go through any server.
When a memory has a location, Nellie shows it on a map and turns the coordinates into a place name. On iPhone this uses Apple Maps; on Android it uses Google Maps and Google Play services. To do this, your phone sends the coordinates to Apple or Google, under their own privacy policies (Apple, Google). Nothing else from the memory is sent, and none of it is sent to us. Memories saved without a location send nothing.
If you ask Nellie to, it reads a contact you pick, or searches your calendars for birthdays, anniversaries and events with the names you type, so you can add those dates. This happens on your phone. Nellie copies only what you choose to add, never sends your contacts or calendars anywhere, and never changes them.
We do not collect or receive your name, email, contacts, calendars, photos, location, notes, or anything you type. We do not use analytics, crash reporting, advertising, or tracking identifiers. We have no servers holding your data.
Each permission is requested only when you first use the related feature, and each can be changed later in your phone's Settings.
Your data may be included in your phone's normal backup (iCloud or a computer on iPhone; Google backup on Android) according to your own device settings; we have no access to those backups. Deleting a person, memory, or date in the app removes it from the app's storage. Deleting the app removes all of its data from your phone.
Nellie is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, children included.
